[returns to the laboratory, having calmed down a little, and sees her]
[he has a feeling that she doesn't like him much - but he has to try and help with the investigation, and besides she is probably just scared because she is arguably the weakest of them]
...
Um... did-- did you find anything out about who killed her already?
[he sloppily wrapped them up in bandages, but these are already unraveling again]
No.
When I heard the announcement I ran here, and everybody was just looking at how she had fallen in there! [points at the acid vat] So I pulled her out, but then...
[the wounds are not too bad; if he's lucky there will be no scars left once they have healed]
I know, but...
I'm sorry. I didn't think of it.
[bites his lip]
Now I am so worried that we can't find out who killed her! We will all die if nobody admits it. I thought about who was here first and who did not come at all, but what help is that?
Um... the first people here were Nemo and Maria, and the black-haired girl and the boy who yelled at Pitch so much in the trial. After me Bri came, and I saw Lev and Lia on the stairs when she pulled me downstairs.
[winces a little, but offers a thankful small smile and holds out the other hand]
So... the ones who have not come are... Roma and the boy with the glasses, right? And who else?
[little does either of them know that he simply prioritised his breakfast over the new murder]
We need to talk to everybody, don't we?
Um... where have you been before coming here?
[tries to mentally track the events back - were Lev and Lia really coming from downstairs when he and Bri passed them by? did they pass them by at all, or did he just imagine that? he was about to pass out after all]
Yeah, I- we should get everyone's story before the trial.
[Nods.]
Had breakfast in the cafeteria with Bri. Then I went to the bathroom, and, uh... you know, there was that announcement. I didn't want to look so I sat in there about seventeen minutes. You?
I ate breakfast too... I remember seeing you. When I had finished I went to my room to take some things to the burner room... um, just small bits of paper and wood I found. I was there when the announcement happened.
She helped me calm down after I had pulled Prudence out of...
[trails off and shakes his head; he doesn't want to say it again]
She came to the laboratory after me and everybody who was there before me, and I'm sure she was in the kitchen until then. You and I and the others who ate breakfast all saw her there, right?
But I'm sorry, I did not think of really asking her. All she talked about was how good her potatoes are and that I am not cool enough to be called Jake.
[why can't she check for herself? but then he thinks of Lia and how strangely she reacted when she saw Tony's corpse; maybe this girl can't handle it either]
[... he should really ask her for her name, come to think]
[but first he'll try to answer the question]
...
Well, um. She was hanging inside it because... somebody hit her on the head from behind with the mop.
[makes a head motion in its direction]
At least that is what I think, because the back of her head was bloody, and if she had not been dead when she fell in she wouldn't have stayed there. Right? I tried to dry her face, but...
There were many, um... cracks? Is that right? Bleeding cracks. And do you know how skin dies and f-falls off when you get a sunburn? It was... a bit like that, just... just wet.
[long moment of silence]
But I think it's okay now.
[nothing is "okay" and he knows it, but at least his shirt soaked most of the acid up]
[tries to remember, but his sense of time was out of order at that point]
Not very long, I think. Bri pulled me away from Prudence quickly, and then I washed my hands in the kitchen. Maybe... five minutes? It felt longer, but... I am not sure.
...
Ah, say... what are you called? I forgot to ask before.

[no, going to need some time to actually think clearly about this, still reeling]
...
Did you?
[looks him over and ends up staring at his hands. That's somewhere they always mention finding evidence in the crime novels, at least]

You need help with that?

Hm?
[follows her fingerpoint]
Oh... yes, if you know how to do it right?
[holds both hands out to her]

Uh, she's... you know, it's more important that people get to see where the murderer left her.
