Chapter 2: Abnormal Days

Attention everyone! A body has been found! A body! It's in the laboratory room! Hop to it! This is so exciting!

[There's an excited giggle before it cuts off.]

[well that's obvious enough given the effects of the acid on her face]

[he feels like wiggly jelly, so he's not even close to moving right now, and he can't bring himself to look away]

I... I didn't fucking do anything!

[He heard the news that the body had been found and gulped. Another one of us dead.]

[He might as well go see. There's nothing else he can do. If he sulks in his room much longer he's afraid someone will do something about it and he won't be able to escape there anymore.]

[So he comes to see what's happening, staying in the shadows and away from the vat. He knows what it contains, and feels bile rise in his throat.]

Oh... oh no...

/How is she supposed to get this body to the freezer? It looks positively toxic. And the poor girl, she'll be horribly disfigured, even if anything can be done to bring people back. She shudders and lifts her camera./

/She wonders who will see these photos, one day, and if they will be delighted or horrified at what they contain./

[due to the crackling of the fire in the incinerator room he didn't hear the cracking sound, but he did hear the announcement]

[as usual it didn't say where the crime scene is, but since quite a few people appeared to still be having a late breakfast or otherwise spending time on the ground level it seems likely that it happened on the upper floor]

[runs up the stairs, briefly glimpsing into the class rooms on the way, and skids to a stop as he enters the laboratory]


Wh-why are you just looking..!


[pushes past the others, pulls Prudence out of the vat, lays her down on her back and looks around for a towel or something]

[there isn't one in sight, so he untucks his shirt and starts dabbing at her face with it - not rubbing, definitely not rubbing - to soak the blood and the acid up]

[there are far too many fractures in her skin, and where there are none it's like the upper layer of her skin is ready to wash away, and the bleeding won't stop--]

[he's not noticing how much his hands are shaking (and starting to hurt), but there are black spots dancing in his vision, and it suddenly feels difficult to not pass out]

/rushed out of the kitchen and still in a filthy apron

[looks up, pale as chalk and about to cry]

S-stopping this stuff! It's eating her face!

[why is this happening to the girl who wanted to help him make his own face look nicer?]

Not cool enough--

[finally chokes and starts coughing]

[looks around for something to drink]

That's not going to help. She's already dead.

/She's standing next to him, eyes downcast with a pitiful look on her face./

Wh-who did this?! It's t-too cruel!

[keeps shakily dabbing at the body's face, letting out the occassional sob]

dead body (just to make things more orderly for the investigation)

[the body is now laying on the ground, left alone after the SHSL Cook got the SHSL Dendrologist away from it]

[the acid damage is pretty bad, but at least it was stopped before it could erase the victim's features]

[the wound on the back of the corpse's head is likely still bleeding, and the snapped, bloody mop is still laying next to the acid vat]

[he comes rushing in... a little late, a little frazzled. he was scared he would be the next one to go, thanks to the local plant freak, and the feeling of relief when he heard the death announcement made him feel sick to his stomach]

[he stares at the body and feels a lot worse]

...What happened to her...? [he manages to kneel down. he can't look away from her face]

[neither can she, honestly]

[she's fallen to her knees not too far from you and staring quite blankly at the cadaver]

Another dead...

[a very unemotional smile's starting to form]

[sneaks in]

[took a while to finally get up the nerve to go look at the crime scene, against any better judgment, and... this one is even worse.]

[it shouldn't be a surprise, after telling both Tony and Prudence that they needed to be more careful, that they would both end up as victims, but it doesn't make it hurt any less that nearly everyone here who was genuinely nice to this kid is dead now.]

[paces around and stares at the walls, the floor, everywhere but the body. Still trying to be observant despite an intense desire to run right back out of the room.]

[returns to the laboratory, having calmed down a little, and sees her]

[he has a feeling that she doesn't like him much - but he has to try and help with the investigation, and besides she is probably just scared because she is arguably the weakest of them]

Um... did-- did you find anything out about who killed her already?

[actually his fumbling with her corpse and subsequent struggle to not pass out most likely took significantly longer than the period she spent in the vat - but his unsure report doesn't help clear that up]

[this all is beyond depressing and he wants to be out of this school]

[This is gross and depraved and everything else he can think of. That poor girl, the poor people who came before her. He takes out his phone again and starts typing away in desperation, trying to get anything, even a single word, "help," to the outside world in hope that someone anyone will come to their rescue. Right now all he feels like is a rat trapped in a cage.]

[after getting a break from the crime scene and being (semi-force-)fed boiled potatoes he wants to talk to as many people as possible to help find the culprit]

[but first he stops by in the infirmary to bandage his hands so he'll be able to touch thing without wincing]

[sadly he isn't too skilled, and the first attempt ends up looking more like a mitten than anything else]

[Jonah was eating cereal at the time of the announcement so forgive him for not showing up right away. He'd rather finish his cereal and digest before seeing anymore corpses, thank you very much]

[But he's in the halls, headed towards the laboratory room to check it out]

[runs into him on the upper floor]

Here you are..! Are you coming from downstairs?

[it sure looks like he is]

What have you been doing? Did you not hear what Yuri said through the speakers?

You... decided to eat when the speakers came on...

[stares at him in shock]

[he thought deciding to finish a meal despite the news of another classmate being murdered was cold-hearted, but wow, this is about as alarming as Lev's SHSL revelation]

...

I... do not know where Roma is. I haven't seen him since the trial... and I also haven't seen the boy with the glasses.

[frowns]

Did he even come to the trial? I cannot remember.

But, about Roma - why would he not have killed Prudence with his magic? If it was him, did he use the mop so that somebody else will get suspected? Do you think Yuri wants us to accuse the wrong person so that he can execute us all?
